What is the difference between "basic_store", "general_store" and
"independent_store" in STORABLE class
Briefly
- basic_store: objects stored by an application can only be retrieved by this same application.
- general_store: objects stored by an application can be retrieved by various applications as long as they run on the same platform/
- independent_store: same as general_store except that it can be done with applications running on various platforms

Hope this helps,
Manu

Does "platform" mean machine or architecture, i.e., will general store work
across nodes of a cluster, same architecture, different machines/nodes? The
comments in the code imply that the above statement is true.

Currently platform means architecture + OS.

Hi Santosh,

you may also want to check the Eiffel learning maps.

For a brief introduction, to see how they work:

http://eiffel.com/developers/learning_maps/

Here is the persistence learning map:

and finally, the one devoted to the topic you are interested in:

Because it is a different platform, you should use independent_store.

Most likely not but this could be done. What you need is:
- write the corresponding Eiffel classes to the Java counterpart.
- read the specification of serialized data in java and then write your own deserialization for the Eiffel counterpart.

Manu
